Will GST start hurting common people?

Will GST start hurting common people?

Doesn’t look so. A sizable number of goods are getting cheaper immediately -

Anyway the inflation is at record low - India’s Consumer Price Inflation Falls to Record Low of 2.18 Percent - and that means the common man is doing ok.

Your soaps and daily consumables are either getting bigger for the same price or cheaper for the same quantity. Walk into a bazaar this weekend and you can see sales for everything from apparels to cars and phones.

Some goods might have an immediate price increase, but once the input credits kick in they might also get cheaper. It is also likely for the government to bring the slabs down as they are getting an overall bigger tax base. It makes it fair - the common man usually pays taxes while the biggies had usually gotten away. GST makes it harder to evade taxes.

More importantly, the nakas/checkposts in state borders would go and that means less corruption and faster movement of goods to you. When goods move faster, they get wasted less and that also reduces prices.
