No more paper trails, with smart e-filing!

The Government released on 13th July, 2015 the procedure for generating EVC (Electronic Verification Code) vide notification No. 2/2015. Earlier in April, the Central Board Of Direct Taxes announced that in line of easing taxpayer grievances, EVC mechanism will be launched which will eliminate the submission of physically signed copy of acknowledgement to CPC after smart e-filing the Income tax return online.

The Electronic Verification Code (EVC) verifies the identity of the person furnishing the return of income and generates it through different mediums discussed here under. The EVC will be a 10 digit alpha-numeric number The EVC can be generated by an assessee for filing his/her own return or by a karts in case of filing a return for HUF. One EVC  validates one return of the assessee irrespective of the Assessment year or return filing type (Original or revised). The validity of the EVC will vary with respect to the mode of generation.

Modes of generating EVC:

 

      1. EVC generation through netbanking:

  • Specified banks provide access to  “My Account” of the assessee through their Net banking facility. The Banks will provide this facility to the to the account holders whose Bank account have a valid PAN number as part of the ‘Know Your Client’ (KYC).
  • Furthermore, the assessee will have to click on the ‘e-filing Login Through Net banking’ on the login page of  Income Tax Department .
  • Chose from the list of specified bank and log into the net banking facility using your login id and password.
  • After generating and sending your EVC to your validated mobile number registered with income tax, finally, the code verifies your Tax return. 

 

     2. EVC generation through Aadhaar authentication using Aadhaar One          time Password:

You can log into your account on https://Incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. and provide your Aadhaar number for linking. Upon login, you will see the following page.

  • Provide the Aadhaar number and you will be prompted upon successful linking of your PAN with Aadhaar.
  • Accordingly, the data of your PAN is successfully authenticated  with UIDAI, an OTP will be generated and sent to you on your registered mobile number with UIDAI.
  • In addition, this OTP is will be your EVC and will be valid for 10 minutes.

      3. EVC generation on ATM of a bank.

If you have an ATM card of a bank specified bank by the Income tax for providing the EVC facility:

  • Select the ‘Generate EVC for Income Tax Return Filing’ option on the ATM screen.
  • The Bank will communicate this request to the Income tax department e-filing website which will generate the EVC and send it to you on your registered mobile number with  e-filing.
  • As a result, your income tax is verified using this EVC.


4. EVC generation through E-filing website:

If your total income as per income tax return is Rs. 5,00,000 or less and if there is no refund, you can generate the EVC on E-filing website. This will send you the the EVC on your registered email id and mobile number.

The EVC used to verify the Income Tax return validates the EVC stored against your PAN. Only a valid and matched EVC is acceptable. Invalid, already used or unmatched EVC are reject-able.
